ESD and NMBC will Assist Firms Attending International Fair

for Investment and Trade in China


August 7, 2012 – Empire State Development (ESD) today announced that it will collaborate with the National Minority Business Council, Inc. (NMBC) to assist New York State firms participate in the 16th annual China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen, China September 8 to 11, 2012.

This annual event attracts an estimated 15,000 visitors from more than 120 countries and is considered one of the largest investment and trade fairs in the world. During the past 15 years of CIFIT, nearly 15,000 in investment and cooperation projects were signed involving foreign capital of more than $110 billion.

CIFIT includes various forums on trade and investment that attract international experts.  A key feature of CIFIT is the Project Matchmaking Symposium, which is dedicated to assisting business owners identify investment and trade opportunities. Each year, the CIFIT Organizing Committee meticulously locates and selects tens of thousands of investment cooperation projects in all major industries.  This is the second year that NMBC will attend CIFIT.

“NMBC is committed to building the entrepreneurial bridge to China for Small Businesses, and considers CIFIT an ideal venue to meet firms of similar size and interest,” said Fritz-Earle McLymont, Managing Director of NMBC Global and leader of this year’s mission.

Participants will be able to share a booth at the fair and will have translators provided to them.  In addition to CIFIT, attendees will meet various business organizations in Beijing, including Solar Valley and Eco City.

To qualify for the New York State assistance, firms must meet specific criterion, such as compliance with the Small Business Administration (SBA) size standards for small businesses, be in operation for over a year, and be profitable.  Information on eligibility and application can be found at www.nmbc.org

“It’s critically important that the state promotes equality of economic opportunity for MWBEs because equality today means opportunity tomorrow,” said Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Kenneth Adams.  “I am pleased that ESD will be partnering with NMBC to support business opportunities at the annual China International Fair for Investment and Trade this year.  Not only will it assist MWBEs, but it will foster economic activities abroad and expand New York State’s presence around the world.”
